Mountain top musings

"Yours is not the task of making your way in the world, but the task of remaking the world which you will find before you."
-Franklin Delano Roosevelt

I was forwarded an e-mail the other day, which honestly was really neat. For the UK readers here you might already be familiar with the phone salesman on the talent show. This was really a neat treat to watch, and is a reminder to all of the wonderful surprises that can be found in the most unexpected places!

Also, just for fun, we have aquaintances who made it to the top three in America's Got Talent. They are a wonderful homeschooling family, and extremely talented musicians and dancers.

We met them thru a fundraiser concert for the EDGE Foundation (helping challenged youth). My youngest daughter was able to play her violin with them for one of the finale songs.

I haven't seen the US version but if it's anything like the UK version, it'll be great! Paul was fabulous and has an album out already

I remember some of the publicity around this at the time, although I hadn't seen it before (tending to avoid reality TV). There was some questioning in the media about whether Paul had any training as an opera singer - it was accepted that he hadn't.

Watching this clip today , I felt a tug of emotion. Apart from the fact that the guy can sing and seems passionate about it, there was something about him following his dream, and taking his opportunity, that was quite remarkable - it would make a good parable, you know, using your talents, not hiding them under a mobile phone etc, etc.

Hi guys, thanks for commenting!

I don't watch much reality TV, due to the 'drama' of it, (I'm one of those boring History Intl viewers!! ;D) I do like the concept of the talent show in that it can give the 'little guy' a chance to 'make it' whereas he/she would not have a chance at an audition anywhere.

I too felt that 'tug of emotion'...it was so neat to see this person succeed, and in something you could see he had such a passion for, as you said ER.

The last link is a post that talks about realising your dreams...'Dreams are meant to be grabbed... "If children live their dreams, what do adults live?" The answer is always the same. Adults live reality!... thats the reason some dreams are not realized is because we were never really committed to them to start with.'

I thought this concept was interesting, and explains perhaps why in my own life, I've followed thru with things, as well as not. And, it helps sort thru any commitments for the future...am I driven enough with a vision/dream to see something thru, or am I just wasting my time with a half-commitment. (this has been an intersting topic that we've applied in talking with our kids, to get them thinking of their own 'dreams' and what they want to do)

ER, I also think you've hit on a topic, as well, about not hiding our talents but using them to help better others' lives, however they may be applied. I'm reading a book, that talks about how we are meant to be bold with our lives, rather than live in some false humility. The author quotes Nelson Mandela:
"...We were born to manifest the glory of God that is within us...And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciousy give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."

hmmm, maybe I'll include the whole quote in another post?! :)
