Adventures in a Ghost Town

The family enjoyed a long weekend adventure, again in the Eastern Sierras which luckily for us is just up the road. These photos are of the old 'Ghost Town' of Bodie, California, the epitomy of the 'wild west' in the gold rush days (1850's - 1880's). The interior shot is of a saloon, where there's a post office box inbetween the table and the old stove. I've included their website for further exploration of their photo album. http://www.bodie.com/

These are amazing photos - very eerie and intriguing at the same time! You can almost taste the history. How did it feel being in the Ghost Town?

I particularly like the wagon wheel shot! I'm also amazed by the blue-ness of the sky. We're not used to that over here - not on a regular basis anyway!

Thanks for your comments!

The blue skies are beautiful, but to be honest...I love when it clouds up and hints of rain.....as they say, 'too much sunshine makes a desert'! :)

You really could almost taste the history in the fact that it was really only 'yesterday' that the town was booming. There were people alive and well in our lifetime that have memories or heard first hand stories of that time. (the 'our life time' is assuming ya'll are older than 20-early 30 somethings! ;))

The town was eerie, also, in the fact that things don't change much. People are driven by the same desires, hopes, dreams. There was a murder a day, and the fire bell tolled each time there was a death (for every year that person was alive). I also found it interesting that the churches weren't built until the start of the decline...as if only then they turned to 'religion'. Anyway, just some random thoughts.

true eerie is a castle dungeon with all the torture devices ... :/
(funny wisecracks allowed, but I was thinking of the Inquisition and the whole Pro/Cath divide...brought on by ER's talks on Luther) :)

What an awesome shot of the wagon wheel. I have always loved anything having to do with the 'Old West', Southwest, desert... etc.
It's a good thing I live here!

Hope you had a great time!

Thanks for visiting.

His Girl Friday....... What a fantastic place! I love visiting sites like this (yours and the Ghost Town) - I can feel history in my bones.

When my family and I are visiting historic sites here in UK, you'll often find me lying flat on my back, trying very hard to feel the history even stronger!! One day, I'm hoping to fall back in time.... (But only if it's safe, and the men are real gentlemen!)

Thanks for posting here! This blogging is fun, much better than the television! It's more like interactive drama..and a fun way to get to know personalities and places, to debate and share!

Scoobers, 'old west' is definitely fun, and as you said, we're living here!

I'll be back to post on the thyroid cancer, probably on your blog, Ciara. I think it's important to share stories, to know that you're not alone, so to speak.

DWNB, as for 'real gentlemen', I agree, but there still needs to be a hint of 'ravish' about them! ;D
